“Let today mark a new beginning for you. Give yourself permission to say NO without feeling guilty, mean, or selfish. Anybody who gets upset and/or expects you to say YES all of the time clearly doesn’t have your best interest at heart. Always remember: You have a right to say NO without having to explain yourself. Be at peace with your decisions.”

I just wanted to add a mantra given to me by Brene Brown. She says to pause and think “choose discomfort over resentment” (2 or 3 times) before saying no. While it may feel uncomfortable in the moment, we avoid the resentment that a “yes” causes to us later when we realize we could have said no.

Great post Rhea! It’s really hard to say no sometimes. I really love the phrases – I can use these next time. And yes, I agree we have the right to say no and we don’t need to explain why all the time.

Yes, we don’t require everyone’s approval anyway. we earn respect by saying no and standing our ground 🙂

      much love!
