So, for you guys familiar with this type of drug. Yes, it takes a while for this to kick in. Started in 20mg – 2 months back and seems nothing works till 4th week. Certainly, now at week 9! there is an immense improvement in terms of moods, but sadly rumination is still there. Relapse is tough! (if you’re a follower – you’d likely know now, our beautiful struggle is)
I can see that his sleep improves within 1-2 weeks. Appetite slowly made an upswing changes during those week as well. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that medication is working. Anyway, we are both aware that depressive mood & lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully progress. I know the possibility of him getting better would probably happened on week 9 or more. For him, recovery is slow wherein it isn’t. I’ve been reading a lot lately about SSRIs, I already know what to expect (mostly).
3rd week has been a combat. Still in low spirits and feeling blue. Running thoughts according to him is an agony. I could imagine how painful it is to play your remorse repeatedly on your head just like a broken tape. His Social Withdrawal slowly builds up undeniably during this time.
5th week is a miracle! He starts reaching out, laugh and make a conversation. Although he feels easily overworked at most times. I don’t know but he looks like a bit of a plum till now. Face is puffy as he starts to gain weight again.
Today @ Week 9 is a challenge. Going back on track is an uphill from someone recovering from depression. Still, running thoughts can’t be avoided but at least it’s manageable now.

Please share your story, how long does paroxetine start to work on you?
Nat
Paroxetine took about two weeks for me to start seeing an effect. Unfortunately the effect was a massive increase in suicidal thoughts and planning. So the psychiatrist made me step down and return to Citalopram which works ok for me.

I guess the results varies, I absolutely agree with you’ even obsessive thinking rapidly increase on 3rd week. the progress is really slow but at least we can see now the difference after 2 months, will check with his doctor if we can change his meds to abilify.
